My Twin

This is Girl's entry for Part 1 of The Assignment

I sit with my small twin connected to me.

My twin's name is Extra Fat. My extra fat goes with me everywhere. In bed, in the bathroom, at school, and it follows me all the way home. I don't like my extra fat, because it makes it hard to run a mile in gym class. So what happens if I have to run from a burglar? I have to save my fat too? One person is enough to look after for me.

I want to lose weight because every time I go shopping I'm afraid all my friends will see the extra blubber fall out of my pants. I hate that feeling. One time I went shopping with a friend, and she bought 10 items for $15. All the sizes were 1, 3, or 5. I had to spend my $20 on size 11 pants and one XL shirt.

I don't want to look like a skinny model, I just want a body I can be proud of. So, instead of eating cookies in front of the TV I'm gonna work out and have an orange.

Girl, I am so proud of you.

Just be sure not to see this as a diet. See it as learning to make wiser choices.

If you chose apples (or an orange) 3 out of 4 times, feel pleased with those 3 times. Don't feel guilty about the ONE time you ate something else.

You can do this.

Hey - Renn's got it right - keep making wise choices as often as possible, and pretty soon you'll see the results you want.

And daggone those little girls anyhow - I'm 5'10" and would NEVER have fit in those tiny clothes, no matter how skinny I got. I see this smackdown as being one of searching for healthiness, not searching for size 9 jeans...and we can do it.

I never ever fit into those sizes either, it seems like stores have them around to make women hate themselves.
I'm really proud of your Girl, and listen to Renn. Celebrate each time you make a wise choice, and don't berate yourself for those times when you have a treat. We're on your side!

Girl,
I might have been a size 5 when I was 5 years old, but never since.

You are on the right track and have the two most important ingredients in a succesful equation, (1) people who love and support you and (2) a good, level head on your shoulders.

Work hard at it, but remember that everyone, everyone makes mistakes and it's completely okay, to do so - do not be too hard on yourself. You do not deserve to be punished.

Stay strong, and more importantly, be happy.
